IUFRO in Stockholm, Sweden
This relaunch reflects a renewed commitment to deepening engagement with young people in forest communities.
The 26th IUFRO World Congress was a global gathering of forest stakeholders that took place in Stockholm, Sweden, at the end of June 2024. It was an invaluable opportunity to meet with our colleagues, discover the latest research, innovations, and applied science. Policymakers and experts from all over the world who attended the event were committed to shaping a sustainable future for forests and society. Significant discussions to advance these crucial initiatives were a priority throughout the congress.
Our team presented two key topics:
Sustainable Wood for Thriving Cities and Forests: How cities can support thriving forests nearby and faraway through Conservation Timber
On Thursday, June 27, Scott presented at T2.22 “Perception – Awareness – Choice. How forest bioeconomy becomes a reality.” The session focused on how cities can contribute to the conservation and sustainability of forests both near and far.

The Future of Forest Work Community of Practice
On Tuesday, June 22, Valeria, along with other presenters, showcased at Poster Stand 28 for S2.2 Smart Forestry – Transforming Forestry and the Future Forest Workforce. This poster session reviewed the highlights of the Future of Forest Work Community of Practice and provided an overview of the methodology used in the communities, workshops, and research collected from the 18 workshops across five different continents.
At IUFRO, we also announced the relaunch of the Future of Forest Work Community of Practice Website. This important project continues to grow, and the enhanced site now features a more detailed description of the methodology, community workshop highlights, and a retrospective look at nearly a decade of connecting youth and communities. It will host the video and photo gallery of the 18 workshops, and shares participants' impact and feedback. Thousands of datasets collected as part of this initiative are available on request, and in the future, the website will host even more detailed research, serving as a connecting hub for communities, youth, and project leaders.
