Conservation Timber Forum, Carrefour International du Bois
A gathering of global innovators on the future of wood as a conservation tool
The Conservation Timber Forum at the 2024 Carrefour International du Bois in Nantes brought together city leaders and forest experts from FSC, FAO, Rainforest Alliance, PEFC International, ETH Zürich, and others to exchange insights and explore new avenues for collaboration between cities and forests. This event aimed to explore the significance and implications of Conservation Timber in addressing pressing needs across various stakeholders within the value chain, from consumers to forest owners and managers.
Participants discussed effective strategies, challenges faced, and how conservation timber supports their cities' broader goals of climate action, biodiversity conservation, and social justice.
As cities worldwide increasingly adopt sustainable wood procurement as a key component of their bioeconomy and climate action strategies, the forum highlighted best practices and accelerated the adoption of Conservation Timber for initiatives like forest youth, forest conservation, forest entrepreneurship, and value system transparency.
The goal of this forum was to foster a shared understanding of Conservation Timber's potential in meeting the urgent requirements of stakeholders. We explored specific cases, needs, and ongoing projects as focal points for our discussions.
Thank you to participants for their contributions. The momentum is inspiring!
